CURLING RETURNS TO THE HAM THIS SATURDAY!

The 2018-19 season “unofficially” kicks off this Saturday, July 14th at 6:00pm. This will not be a “learn to curl” but rather a time for returning players to shake off the dust, cool off and have some fun. Whether you want to try out some new equipment, experiment with a new slide or just throw some stones. If you’ve never tried doubles or “Sturling” this would be a great time to check it out.

Grab a buddy, $15, your broom and come on down to the Ham!

See you on the ice!

MWV Curling Club, Well Represented at the Plymouth Rocks Mudspiel

“B” Event Winners, vice Steve Ripkey; skip Paul Valle; third Sherry Marceau, and Conor Ketchum, second.

16 teams descended on the Plymouth Rocks CC last weekend for their annual Mudspiel and the Mount Washington Valley Curling Club was well represented with three teams taking the ice. All three teams made it to the semi-finals, with two making it to the finals and one coming away the the “B” Event trophy.

The “Fork and Stones” skipped by Paul Valle, vice Steve Ripkey, third Sherry Marceau and second Conor Ketchum (PRCC) defeated the “Ladies of the Valley”, skipped by Gwenn Munroe, vice Eileen Neal, second Shirley Alessandroni and lead Margaret Scrimger to make it to the “B” Event finals Sunday morning.

Billy Chick and his “MUD-WISE-ERS”, vice Kathy Sherman, second Michelle Chick and lead Joan Mcgrauth beat the PRCC “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades”, skipped by our own Chris Pollock, to go on to the “C” Event Finals.

On Sunday morning the “MUD-WISE-ERS” fell to a very tough South Shore team, the Mud Shuckers.  The 11:00am finals saw the MWVCC “Fork and Stones” prevail over Derek Cambell and his “Curling Me Softly” rink from Portland to capture the “B” Event win.

Another great Mudspiel from our friends at the Plymouth Rocks Curling Club, thanks to Dave Geyger, Scott Shedd and their crew.

Saturday Night Casual Curling

Our Saturday Night Casual Curling program is the place to come to learn how to curl, improve how you curl or just have a great evening of fun.

Our program is designed for all curlers 18 and above of any ability. Experience is not necessary as we will teach you the traditional “lunge” delivery or for folks with back or knee problems, how to curl with the “stick”. Stick curling is much like shuffleboard on ice and that method is used by many club members with great success. All equipment is provided.

All you need to bring is a clean pair of footwear, a good attitude, and a desire to have a great time.

The cost is $20 per person. Should you decide to join us for the Winter League, half of your ice fees paid will be credited towards your membership. Click here to register.

So grab a friend or two (or an entire team of 4!) and join the fun. This is an Olympic year and as always there will be tremendous interest in curling. Get ahead of the curve  now and truly enjoy this Olympic Curling Experience!

Delivery Clinic

The Mount Washington Valley Curling Club will be hosting a delivery clinic on Saturday, October 14th from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Ham Arena in Conway. While all curlers are invited, this is not a “Learn To Curl”. This is for new, intermediate and advanced curlers looking to fine tune their delivery and “up” their game.

The clinic will be instructed by Gwen Kraylo-Lyons. In addition to being the President of the GNCC, Gwen is a USCA certified Level 2 instructor, a CCA certified Level 2 ice maker, and one of only four USCA certified Level 4 Officials in the US.  Gwen has officiated annually for the World Curling Federation since 2001, and recently returned from Beijing China where she officiated at the World Women’s Curling Championships.

Gwen has been involved on various committees for the USWCA since 1994.  She joined the USCA Championship Committee, the Rules and Officiating Committee, and the Request for Ruling Committee in 2004 and served and served until 2016 year.  She was USCA VP of Member Services in 2012 and Secretary in 2013.  She currently serves on the USCA Officiating Advisory Committee.

The cost of the clinic is $25 per person.

If you have not yet registered, register by clicking here.

Thank you, Good Curling, and See You on the Ice!

Our Fall Learn To Curl will be held Saturday, September 23 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Ham Arena, 87 W.Main St., Conway, NH. This event is open to all adults 18 and up.

You will learn a little about the history of the game, and the fundamentals to make you comfortable on the ice. You will receive about 2 hours of training from USCA (United States Curling Association) certified instructors. Instruction will include safety on the ice, customs and traditions of curling and, of course, the fundamentals of the game and “on ice” practice and a short game. Should you decide to “give curling a try”, our games are played at the Ham Arena on Wednesday nights from September thru early April. The Fall Season runs from September 27th to November 29th.The Winter Season from January to April. You may choose to curl in the Fall, Winter, or both!

Curling is not a difficult sport to learn and takes no special atheletic ability. If you can golf, you can curl. We can teach you how to curl in an hour or two….then, you can spend the rest of your life getting good at it!

The Learn to Curl program costs $25 per person, but if you register on line, it is just $20. Additionally, should you decide to join the club, 100% of the cost of your Learn To Curl will be applied towards your club membership.

Is curling for you? Maybe it is, or maybe it isn’t, but why not come find out for yourself? Great for couples, or singles. Grab your favorite girl or guy and join us Saturday, September 23!

Good Curling, and See You On The Ice!
