The season is set to start on November 11 at 6:30pm. Everyone will have to be tested for Covid 19 before they can play per the Ham Arena policy which can be found HERE.
Memorial Hospital in Conway is testing and you can schedule an appointment by calling (603) 356-0673. You may of course use any facility you wish. I would do this as soon as possible as it needs to be completed before you can play.
From the Ham’s website:
“The big new change is this…
Prior to Friday, November 6, 2020, it is required that all rink staff, volunteers, coaches/staff, referees, and athletes (youth and adult leagues) be tested at least once for COVID-19 to limit early re-introduction of COVID-19. The test should be performed after the announced the 2-week “pause” on all hockey and ice arena activities on October 15, 2020. The test can be either PCR or Antigen based (ie Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid Test). Test results must be provided to the hockey program on or before Friday, November 6, 2020 with a copy being kept by the program for 30 days. A person is exempt from this recommendation if they have previously tested positive for COVID-19 in the three months prior to the date of the “pause” with a virus-specific test used to diagnose active infection (PCR or antigen based test). This rule only applies to MWVYHA Bantams and Mites, our Tuesday Night League and the Curling Club. These were the only programs that had been on the ice. All other programs DO NOT have to supply us with a negative test. Those groups include, MWVYHA Pee Wees and Mites, Women’s League and Coed League.
What this means to you
Everyone on the playing surface, which includes the benches and penalty boxes must were a face covering/mask. A mask can also be a full face shield with splash guard (fishbowl with splash guard). Masks can be lower during play. Masks should be pulled back up on the bench or while standing waiting for a drill to start. During game play they can be lowered.”
Please get your team names in as soon as possible. Team names are needed to complete the schedule. Send names to email@example.com.
I have just received word that the Ham Arena will be closed until further notice. Governor Sununu has closed all indoor hockey rinks in the state for at least 2 weeks. Hopefully we will be back on the ice on November 4. This is a fluid situation and will keep all members updated as things change.
After a very trying pre-season we have landed on our feet. By the feedback from last night, everyone seems to have had a great time and is looking forward to our new Doubles Curling League.
The league will get underway next Wednesday at 6:30pm. The schedule is almost complete and should be published by this weekend. The schedule will be posted on our website as we have done in the past. This will be a 9 week schedule with 8 games and 1 bye per team. Last year with our 8 team schedule everyone played each other twice, fall and winter with the games evenly divided between inside and outside sheets. Unfortunately that is impossible with 9 teams, but it should be very close. There will be no playoffs, as such. The team that finishes first is the Fall Champion, same for the winter. We are working on a “inter-club bonspiel event” possibly during the winter break, for club bragging rights.
And I’m sure you’re all wondering how the “big” game turned out last night between Team Shagoury (Andy, Dee and Denise) and Team Huemmler (Larry, George and Eileen as sub). As you know they were playing for the club championship that was postponed last year because of Covid.
Well, it was a great game. Larry led most of the game and was ahead 6-5 going into the last end. But Andy was not to be denied, he came up with a big 4 ender in the 8th to take the championship. Congratulations Team Shagoury!
Please check this site often for club news as many do not seem to get the emails. This will be the “official” news outlet for the club, but it’s a work in progress so please be patient.

All teams will play 3 eight end games.
All event winners will receive medals
Continental breakfast, lite lunch and awards dinner included. (BYOB)
The 2018-19 season “unofficially” kicks off this Saturday, July 14th at 6:00pm. This will not be a “learn to curl” but rather a time for returning players to shake off the dust, cool off and have some fun. Whether you want to try out some new equipment, experiment with a new slide or just throw some stones. If you’ve never tried doubles or “Sturling” this would be a great time to check it out.
Grab a buddy, $15, your broom and come on down to the Ham!
16 teams descended on the Plymouth Rocks CC last weekend for their annual Mudspiel and the Mount Washington Valley Curling Club was well represented with three teams taking the ice. All three teams made it to the semi-finals, with two making it to the finals and one coming away the the “B” Event trophy.
The “Fork and Stones” skipped by Paul Valle, vice Steve Ripkey, third Sherry Marceau and second Conor Ketchum (PRCC) defeated the “Ladies of the Valley”, skipped by Gwenn Munroe, vice Eileen Neal, second Shirley Alessandroni and lead Margaret Scrimger to make it to the “B” Event finals Sunday morning.
Billy Chick and his “MUD-WISE-ERS”, vice Kathy Sherman, second Michelle Chick and lead Joan Mcgrauth beat the PRCC “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades”, skipped by our own Chris Pollock, to go on to the “C” Event Finals.
On Sunday morning the “MUD-WISE-ERS” fell to a very tough South Shore team, the Mud Shuckers. The 11:00am finals saw the MWVCC “Fork and Stones” prevail over Derek Cambell and his “Curling Me Softly” rink from Portland to capture the “B” Event win.
Another great Mudspiel from our friends at the Plymouth Rocks Curling Club, thanks to Dave Geyger, Scott Shedd and their crew.
Our 2017-18 season came to a close at the Ham Arena on April 11th with Team Force snatching “victory from the jaws of defeat” in the Championship game. Team Force (9-3) defeated Team Valle (9-3) by pulling off an amazing 5 ender in the eighth end to claim the Club Championship, 9-8. Congratulations to Team Force on a great season!
In the “B” Event, Team Huemmler (Bill Earle, George Leblanc with subs Kirk Membry and Geoff Murray filling in for Larry) defeated Team Chick, Billy and Michelle Chick, Kathy Sherman and Joan Magrauth.
Team Pollock ( Chris, Steve Ripkey, Margaret Scrimger and Denise Noel) was victorious over Team Munroe (Gwen, Sue Bennett, Eileen Neal and Shirley Alessandroni) in our “C” Event.
Congratulations to all, enjoy the summer and see you in the fall!
The 2018 Olympic-Mini Curling League was a great success. Following the playoffs our Bronze Medal winners were (bottom row, L-R) Pat Jones, Susan Beaulieu, Margaret Scrimger (filling in for Kara Layton, who couldn’t attend the last night) and Sherry Marceau, one of many club members who helped skip throughout the event. They played Denise Noel, Ian Cruckshank, Mona L’Heureux and Club Member Paul Valle who helped skip.
The Silver Medal going to Dan Corrigan, Kirk Membry, Hank Letarte and Club Member Bill Earle helped coach and skip. The Gold Medal went to Geoff Murray, Eric Mueller, Lisl Mueller and Club Member Keith Force who helped skip.
We want to thank everyone who attended our 3 curling camps and all volunteers who helped make this such a tremendous success. We hope to see you all in the Fall. Good Curling!!!!
